$8,000,000

Change is brewing when the Federal Government grants NYU $8,000,000 to study ramifications of shyness related issues. You can read all about it online if you google their 2014 research. A lead person from this study says in an interview with a magazine article (also easy to find online) that the shy child will not come out of their shell unless they receive assistance. Does that not mean there are hundreds of thousands of adults currently suffering? Other research shows adults, especially after retirement, could suffer from many illnesses simply because they don’t have a social network. Time to build bridges for those who didn’t receive help as children.

  1. I missed your event at the York Library. I found out too late. However, I am interested in this because I was a very shy child. During the 6th grade our teacher forced us to do public speaking in front of the entire class. I would have skipped school to get out of doing this, but I was too shy to do that. So eventually, I gave in and started doing it since I had no choice. I believe that opened the door for me with my shyness…I am an adult now (68) and I stopped being shy in that 6th grade class. I do feel the pain for others when I see they are going through this. It’s wonderful that you and others are bringing this to the attention of everyone who does not suffer from this. I just want to say thank you!

  2. Hi Louise,

How fortunate you had to do those public talks in school! How clever of the teacher.

The discussion went well, sorry you missed it. I am launching an awareness campaign talk in Kennebunk on May 18, maybe you can get to that and introduce yourself to me. I am looking for volunteers too!

    1. Hi Helen,
I do not think I will be able to make it…I have a vacation rental business that is very busy during the spring and summer. I have rentals to get ready doing cleaning and painting etc. So it’s not really a good time for me. Keep me informed of any of your speaking engagements in the Fall if you have any.
      Thank you,
      Louise
